    Doug Fort opened Santa Maria Speedway in 1964.  Billed as "The Best Short Track in the West", Mr. Fort ran the speedway until his passing in 1999.  Doug's wife Nettie took on the operation through the 2006 season and has now brought in Dave Swindell to run the facilities...and the racing moves into it's 43'rd year.
